Water Purifier Technologies Overview

Last week, couple of sales persons walked to my home and tried to sell a water purifier from Eureka (Aquaguard). Incidentally enough, I was thinking of buying a water purifier but did not have the time to do the reserach about them. They talked about how best is their purifier and low maintenance cost it is. I asked them to come on the next day to check the reviews of the product online. When I check the reviews, they are far from what the sales persons were boasting off. While doing my research, there were so many terms like RO, UV, UF people were throwing around and I had no clue about them. So I thought I give it a try to understand more about them. So, here is a summary of various technologies available.

Things to watch out for
  1. Any RO water purifier involves wastage of water, which goes to the drain. You can reuse that water for general gardening or floor cleaning purposes though.
  2. In most of the areas, service persons insist on putting a pre-filter to remove any dirt or impurities even before the water goes into the purifier. Dont get it from service persons, they will charge you around Rs 1200 to 1500. instead you can buy it independently from online in Rs 600 to 700.
